Choose options

Named for the grandmother of Seed Savers Exchange co-founder Diane Ott Whealy, ‘Grandma Einck’s’ dill is an heirloom dill variety known for its fragrant heads and feathery foliage. This special dill first appeared in Ott Whealy’s grandparents’ garden in Festina, Iowa, in the 1920s. With its remarkable flavor, the dill became a favorite both at the family dinner table and at local exhibitions, winning multiple blue ribbons at the Winneshiek County Fair. Now a staple at Seed Savers Exchange—an Iowa-based nonprofit that protects the biodiversity of our food system by preserving rare, heirloom, and open-pollinated varieties of seeds—this unique dill inspired our print Grandma Einck’s Dill. The print features dill paired with cucumber and basil (ideal dill companion plants) and a black swallowtail butterfly which relies on dill as a host plant.
Grandma Einck’s Dill is a limited-edition print created in collaboration with the Seed Savers Exchange team. Half of the edition’s sales will be donated to Seed Savers Exchange to support their efforts to conserve unique seed varieties and build a “network of gardeners, farmers and educators committed to protecting our planet’s natural beauty and agricultural diversity.”
Made with water-based printing inks, multiple blocks, and heavy printing paper, Grandma Einck’s Dill is printed by hand in New York City. The subtle variations that result from hand printing make each print one of a kind.
Imperfections, such as uneven ink coverage and waves in the paper ground, are inherent to our block printing process and part of its beauty.
