Pawpaw Prepared Three Ways: Wallpaper, Print, Fabric!
As the folksong of the same name suggests, exciting things have been happening “way down yonder in the pawpaw patch”. In this case, the pawpaw patch was the beautiful Atlanta home of Gregg Irby, of Gregg Irby Gallery, where textile and wallpaper makers and interior designers recently gathered from far and wide for the first Design Social Pop Up Show House. While I couldn’t be there in person, our Pawpaw pattern was present in several different forms.
Pawpaw Wallpaper:
We’re honored that Gregg selected our Pawpaw wallpaper, in color Leaf Green, for the walls of her guest house. The wallpaper is inspired by the pawpaw, America’s largest native fruit. Known for its bulbous shape, custard-like consistency, and kaleidoscope of mango, banana and caramel flavors, the pawpaw repels pests and possesses cancer-fighting properties. We love how Gregg made Pawpaw part of her guest house design, and we couldn’t imagine a more welcoming home away from home.
Pawpaw Relief Print:
Gregg’s guest house walls also featured another form of pawpaw: our new, limited edition block print, Asimina Triloba. Our Pawpaw wallpaper and Asimina Triloba block print have much in common. Both were inspired, of course, by the pawpaw (which bears the scientific name Asimina Triloba). Both incorporate a variety of pawpaw-related motifs: rounded leaves, shapely fruit, graceful butterflies, curious birds. And both originated as charcoal sketches. But these two pawpaw explorations differ as well. Lush and colorful, the wallpaper is digitally printed in Connecticut on clay-coated paper. Graphic and monochrome, the block print is printed by hand in New York City on Japanese mulberry paper. Each beautiful in its way, Pawpaw and Asimina Triloba demonstrate how the story of a remarkable plant can be expressed in different ways. Please contact us or our showrooms for a Pawpaw wallpaper sample; Asimina Triloba can be purchased on our website.
Pawpaw fabric:
Our Pawpaw pattern was also present in Gregg's guest house in one additional form: fabric! We wanted to give you a sneak peek of our next endeavor. Many of you have asked if Pawpaw is available as fabric, and now we can say yes! We’ve taken our most popular color way, Leaf Green, and printed it on 100% Belgian linen. The fabric will be digitally printed in Pennsylvania on a made-to-order basis, and will formally launch at the Darien Design Social Pop Up in Darien, CT on Tuesday, October 3rd.
Pawpaw wallpaper, print and fabric: cheers to Pawpaw possibilities!
